3D Animation Artist Statement
As a professional 3d- Animator, I play an important role in bringing all walks of life together. I enjoy making others smile. There are so many people with so many different worlds, but laughter and smiling are universal. I plan to use my gifts, whether it's my child like energy or my quick imagination, to enter into many different people's worlds. I want to force people to exercise their imagination; too few people do anymore…unless they are children.
Animation is a very visual form of communication that in many instances no dialogue is needed. This is a very powerful tool because it has the potential to be understood by many cultures even if they do not speak the same language.
All types of animation have influenced me. Watching Saturday morning cartoons when I was younger of Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry sparked my interest in animation. When I saw Pixar's "Bug's Life" I fell in love with 3-D, but I've always had a love for Walt Disney's story telling. Japanese Artist/Director Hayao Miyazaki's films are action packed, spiritual, lesson teaching, detailed, and his characters are unique and clever. Of course my peer animators also have had plenty of help in influencing me as well. Artists, when we are all open to feedback and dialogue, can illicit a great amount of creative juice and be supportive simultaneously. I am overly influenced sometimes and have yet to settle on one specific style.
The animation process itself is a very difficult one. It is tedious and time consuming. You can not be afraid to destroy work that you have worked on for hours in order to get something better. But the ability to breathe life into anything and watch it grow into a story telling vehicle is worth the work and time it takes.
